ACG and EMA Form Strategic Alliance With the Society of American Military Engineers

The AABC Commissioning Group (ACG) and the Energy Management Association (EMA) have formed a strategic alliance with the Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) to facilitate collaboration, education, and provide professional development for SAME members involved in engineering and construction services.

Most notably, the alliance will provide support to transitioning military officers and personnel through the ACG Certified Commissioning Authority (CxA) and Energy Management Professional (EMP) certification programs. The CxA certification is accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and recognized by the Department of Energy’s Better Buildings Workforce Guidelines program, ensuring it is considered an approved commissioning credential for federally funded projects. EMA is applying for the same designations and is expected to attain them within 60-90 days.

“We’re proud to announce ACG and EMAs’ alliance with SAME,” says EMA President Robert Knoedler (Hanson Professional Services). “It is an opportunity for our associations to engage in a preeminent public/private partnership that responds to resolving U.S. infrastructure needs, while at the same time bringing qualified engineers and other building professionals into energy management fields.” As part of the alliance, SAME has joined EMA as an Associate Member and EMA as a Non-Profit Organization Member of SAME.

The alliance will be on full display at the upcoming CxEnergy, an event in commissioning and energy management, where SAME members will be able to take advantage of professional development and networking opportunities, discounted registration and 20 percent discount on EMP training and certification. In addition, they will earn AIA continuing education credits that apply to a wide of other industry certifications. The CxEnergy Technical Program includes presentations that include case studies and topics such as building envelope/enclosure commissioning, technology & innovation, energy management, commissioning specialty systems, policy & financial issues, lighting, water management, data centers, microgrids, and energy storage. CxEnergy is being held April 23-26, in Las Vegas.

The Society of American Military Engineers leads collaborative efforts to identify and resolve national security infrastructure-related challenges. Founded in 1920, SAME unites public and private sector individuals and organizations from across the architecture, engineering, construction, environmental and facility management, cyber security, project planning, contracting and acquisition, and related disciplines in support of national security.

ACG is a non-profit association dedicated to the advancement of independent third-party building commissioning, and is a group of certified commissioning authorities. EMA is dedicated to advancing the quality of energy management services for the benefit of the building owner and facility manager. EMA oversees and administers the Energy Management Professional Certification Program.
