American Standard, part of LIXIL, has announced that its ActiClean self-cleaning toilet has been named a 2017 R&D 100 Award finalist in the process and prototyping category. The R&D 100 Award winners this year were announced at a black-tie awards dinner at the Walt Disney World Swan Resort in Orlando.
The ActiClean system is the toilet that cleans itself, combining the power of VorMax flushing technology with a fully integrated self-cleaning system. The user presses a button, walks away, and the ActiClean system will scour the bowl with cleaning fluid, then soak and rinse.
“This recognition of the technology created by our product design team means a great deal to everyone in our organization,” says Maha El Kharbotly, chief marketing officer for LIXIL Americas, the division under which American Standard operates. “This toilet performance represents another chapter of our 140-year-old tradition of producing products that improve life for individuals across the country and around the world.”
The ActiClean self-cleaning toilet has also been recognized with a Gold 2017 A’ Design Award in the bathroom furniture and sanitary ware category, a Gold 2017 American Business Award in the consumer products category, and a 2016 GREEN GOOD DESIGN Award in the green products category for its innovation and sustainability.
Since 1963, the R&D 100 Awards program has identified technologies that have been introduced to the market. Widely recognized as the Oscars of Invention, the R&D 100 Awards identify and celebrate the top technology products of the year. Past winners have included testing equipment, new materials, chemistry breakthroughs, biomedical products, consumer items, and high-energy physics spanning industry, academia, and government-sponsored research.
