ANSI Awards NEMA’s Senior Program Manager with Next Generation Award

The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) announced that Ryan Franks, a senior program manager at the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA), is one of five recipients of ANSI’s 2015 Next Generation Award. He and others will be recognized at a Sept. 30, 2015, ceremony held in conjunction with World Standards Week in Washington, D.C.

ANSI bestows the Next Generation Award on persons who have been engaged in standardization or conformity assessment activities for less than eight years and who have, during that time, demonstrated vision, leadership, dedication, and significant contributions to their chosen fields of activity.

According to NEMA President and CEO Kevin J. Cosgriff, Franks has proven his ability to lead the industry—domestically and internationally—in developing voluntary consensus standards since he joined NEMA four years ago.

“It is clear that Ryan has and will continue to make significant contributions to the electroindustry. He is the definition of the next generation of standards professional,” Cosgriff says.

Franks is secretary of the U.S. Technical Advisory Group to IEC TC120 Electrical Energy Storage Systems, convener of the IEC ad hoc Group on Energy Storage System Aspects and Gap Analysis, and secretary of the ANSI Accredited Standards Committee on Energy Storage Systems. He is also working group chair of the EPRI Energy Storage Integration Council, working group chair of the Department of Energy Protocol for Uniformly Measuring and Expressing the Performance of Energy Storage Systems, U.S. expert to IEC Systems Evaluation Group (SEG) 6 on Microgrids, and an active participant in IEC SEG 1 on Smart Cities.

An engineer, Franks performed materials research and intellectual property analysis prior to joining NEMA. He has authored several conference proceedings and journal articles, is the inventor on two patents and other patents pending, and was named a 2014 IEC Young Professional.

Carin Stuart, a senior technology engineer at Energizer Battery Manufacturing Inc., a NEMA member company, is also 2015 Next Generation Award recipient and a 2014 IEC Young Professional.
