ASSA ABLOY Door Brands Release EPDs to Provide List of Components and Environmental Impacts

ASSA ABLOY Group door brands have released several Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs), to be more transparent regarding environmental impacts of their products. EPDs satisfy requirements of industry-wide programs by providing a comprehensive list of components and potential environmental impacts throughout the product’s life cycle.

Fourteen EPDs from ASSA ABLOY Group door brands cover a full range of products relating to doors and frames:

  • Hollow metal door and frame manufacturers Ceco Door, Curries and Fleming Door Products provide EPDs for product lines from basic doors to blast-resistant assemblies.
  • Interior aluminum door and frame brand Frameworks, and all ASSA ABLOY wood doors provide a broad offering of EPDs.

“Our ASSA ABLOY Group door brands fully support the trend toward transparency and are working on EPDs for ten additional products by the end of 2015,” says Stacey Callahan, vice president, marketing and innovation, ASSA ABLOY Door Group. “Understanding a product’s impact on the environment helps us to make better decisions about materials and manufacturing. This ensures the best outcomes for our customers and their building projects.”

Sustainability is an integral part of product innovation at ASSA ABLOY, with an understanding of long-term trends and customer needs, and a strong commitment to sustainability regarding product life-cycle and manufacturing operations. New product development aims to meet the stringent codes, standards, and building certifications set forth by the U.S. Green Building Council‘s (USGBC) Leadership in Energy & Environment Design (LEED) certification program and the International Living Future Institute’s Living Building Challenge program.

Providing EPDs is another example of the group’s continuing effort to responsibly supply commercial and institutional solutions that include energy efficient openings, products produced with rapidly renewable materials and recycled content, and programs for proper recycling or reuse of products once they’ve reached the end of their life.
