National Nail’s CAMO brand of tools and fasteners for deck builders has partnered with the North American Deck & Railing Association (NADRA) to support Deck Safety Month in May 2023. As a NADRA Deck Safety Month ambassador, CAMO encourages homeowners to inspect their decks and check for safety issues before planning outdoor activities. While decks are perfect for gathering with loved ones, poorly maintained or unsafe decks could cause severe injuries to you and your guests.
“Our No. 1 priority is to ensure that decks are safe for homeowners and that they’re built to last,” says W. Scott Baker, CEO of National Nail. “Adhering to building codes and conducting yearly inspections and maintenance are essential to maintaining safe outdoor living spaces.”
CAMO offers innovative deck building products to help builders install safer, longer-lasting decks. Their stand-up tools like ClipDRIVE and DRIVE allow contractors to quickly fasten clips in a standing position, protecting their knees and backs. For safeguarding the deck and structure, CAMO’s Structural Screws feature the proprietary PROTECH ULTRA 4 coating, a four-layer coating system tested 2X longer than industry standards for leading corrosion resistance ensuring long-lasting performance of the screws. And, new CAMO Joist + Ledger Deck Tape adds a layer of protection for the deck substructure, creating a waterproof membrane to prevent rotting caused by moisture. It also self-seals around fasteners, blocking the pathway of water into wood.
“Your roof has a life expectancy. Your windows have a life expectancy. What about your deck?” says Michael Beaudry, executive vice president of NADRA. “With more than 60 million decks in the U.S., it is estimated that 30 million decks are past their useful life and need to be replaced or repaired.”
NADRA’s “10-Point Consumer Safety Checklist” is an efficient way to take a good look at the different parts of the deck for possible maintenance, repair, or replacement. The free checklist can be found at https://www.NADRA.org.
