Altitude Design Office of Los Angeles has received a 2017 American Graphic Design Award from Graphic Design USA for its work on the Tangram Interiors headquarters remodel. The awards focus on the ways in which graphic design shapes business, society, commerce and culture. Some 10,000 projects were submitted for the competition.
Altitude Design won in the environmental graphics category. The objectives with environmental graphics and signage at Tangram were to provide a level of ambiance and feel that reflected its brand as well as for wayfinding and research as people toured the space.
“We have worked on a number of successful projects with Altitude Design,” says Tangram Interiors CMO Paul Smith. “We knew we could count on the quality of their work and their ability to understand the needs and vision for our headquarters to help us accomplish our goals.”
The project encompassed multiple areas of the Tangram facility. Altitude Design was the principal designer of the live wall with plants and lit acrylic signage that greets visitors in the reception area of the lobby and the big wall that spans more than 120 feet across the back of the showroom. Also included were large-scale pictorial graphics for the work café, large statement signage in the employee workspace, and other room signage and wayfinding pieces.
“As Tangram looked to provide a destination showroom and workplace experience, it was important for the space to communicate that Tangram understands Southern California culture,” notes Greg Nelson, principal, Altitude Design. “Our approach used large SoCal lifestyle graphics to serve as backdrops for the furniture, flooring and technology products at Tangram. The end result creates a series of vignettes that leaves visitors and employees alike with an impression of the culture and capabilities at Tangram.”
Complementing its core furniture offering, Tangram Interiors operates five business units for a complete approach to workplace design and installation, flooring; architecture walls; custom furniture; move management and technology. The Tangram Studio division is focused on custom and co-designed workplaces, while Tangram Technology creates unified ecosystems incorporating audiovisual, acoustics, lighting and sound masking. This range of services allows for a top-to-bottom approach that places each aspect of office planning, design and installation under consideration to maximize utility and comfort for the people who make organizations run.
