After 14 months of work, the AIA’s Equity in Architecture Commission has released a report with its recommendations for expanding and strengthening AIA’s commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion in the profession of architecture.
The Commission, a panel of architects, educators, and diversity experts, was formed in 2015 to address concerns about disproportionate demographics among those in the profession. The Commission worked to identify the root causes for the lack of diversity and inclusion and offered recommendations on how to address those issues.
The report can be accessed here.
“Our resolve and commitment to work toward a more diverse profession is a key value the Institute will not shy away from,” says 2017 AIA President Thomas Vonier, FAIA. “This report gives the AIA a framework to move closer to a more equitable and inclusive profession. In the months ahead, we look forward to implementing some of the recommendations put forth.”
