Equitable Building, Atlanta
Stuart Dean restored 136,000 square feet of anodized aluminum curtainwall panels on the 33-story Equitable Building located at 100 Peachtree Street NW. The first phase, which lasted four months in 2012, consisted of cleaning and clear coating the main façade with a proprietary silicon acrylic coating—Sodric—that meets the AAMA 2604 specification. The second phase was the application of a high-performance coating system at the ground floor—PPG Coraflon ADS, which meets the AAMA 2605 specification. This part of the project lasted eight weeks in 2013.
Stuart Dean technicians were unable to use conventional cleaning techniques to correct etched stains or corrosion because it would expose more raw aluminum, causing the areas to be void of natural corrosion resistance. The team monitored the aluminum anode thickness during cleaning to help maintain the aluminum’s service life.
