Harsco Metals & Minerals Acquires Crushed Glass Manufacturing Operation

Worldwide sustainable resource recovery services and environmental products company Harsco Metals & Minerals has acquired a crushed glass manufacturing operation in Orwigsburg, Pa., previously held by LVH Industries Inc. The operation enables Harsco to expand its sales of high-quality crushed glass abrasives and aggregates across the Northeastern U.S.

Crushed glass abrasives joined Harsco’s product line nearly a year ago, aptly branded BLACK BEAUTY GLASS. The product is processed from recycled post-consumer bottle glass and has become known for optimum quality and performance for select applications. The company’s new manufacturing facility will further solidify Harsco’s abrasive position in the marketplace and commitment to the beneficial recycling of industry by-products. The Original BLACK BEAUTY brand of coal slag abrasives has been a mainstay of Harsco’s production for nearly 80 years and has positioned the company as a market leader.

“This new operation further expands our offering to the surface preparation industry and also allows us to diversify our product offerings into alternate applications, beyond abrasives,” says Greg Andersen, business unit president. “Building on our long-standing processing expertise and focus on quality, we are confident that our new offering will deliver value to our current and new customer base.” The company will offer recycled crushed glass for abrasive markets; industrial cullet; countertops and solid surfaces; filtration; filler and coatings.

Harsco Metals & Minerals is a division of Harsco Corp., a diversified industrial company that is helping build the world by providing essential services and products to fundamental global industries, including steel and metals production, construction, railways and energy.
