High-performance, low-VOC closed-cell spray foam insulation Icynene ProSeal from spray foam manufacturer Icynene has met stringent chemical emission criteria to be awarded UL Greenguard Gold certification by UL Environment.
The UL Greenguard Gold certification closely follows Icynene’s recent introduction of one-hour trades re-entry and two-hour re-occupancy for the ultra-low-VOC product. The certifications allow Icynene ProSeal to contribute valuable points in established green-building programs, satisfy strict local building code or ordinance criteria, as well as meet indoor air quality requirements.
UL Greenguard-certified building materials are recognized, referenced and preferred by more than 400 federal purchasers, retailers, green building rating tools and building codes from around the world.
“According to Shelton Group’s 2014 EcoPulse Survey, a record-breaking 70 percent of Americans are searching for greener products. The recognition by UL Environment of Icynene ProSeal allows architects, designers and specifiers to confidently create healthier, comfortable and energy-efficient home, office, health-care and educational facility environments,” says Icynene vice president of Engineering, Paul Duffy.
“It’s estimated that Americans spend around 90 percent of their time indoors where air pollution levels can be anywhere between two and five times higher than those found outdoors. The stricter certification criteria considers safety factors to account for sensitive individuals, such as children and the elderly and ensures that a product is acceptable for use in indoor environments, including schools and health-care facilities,” says Duffy.
Icynene ProSeal also features a core density of 2.4 pounds, offers a high R-value of R7.1 per inch and, as a closed-cell spray foam product, is recognized by FEMA as a flood-resistant material.
