Leviton has announced its support of the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics’ (NCSSM) expansion to a second campus in western North Carolina with a donation of $250,000. In honor of the gift, NCSSM will recognize Leviton with the naming of the Leviton Engineering Lab on the new campus.
“North Carolina has been an important region for Leviton’s business for over five decades, and we are proud to support The North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics’ historic expansion to a second campus into Western North Carolina,” says Donald J. Hendler, Leviton chief executive officer. “The education that the NCSSM provides is critical to the development and future of the region.”
NCSSM is a public residential high school specializing in science, technology, engineering and math, and with Leviton’s support, its expansion to a second location in Morganton, N.C., will make it the first program of its kind with two physical locations.
“We are incredibly grateful to Leviton for their investment in our new campus and their ongoing commitment to the Unifour region,” says Kevin Baxter, director of NCSSM Western Campus Planning. “This generous gift represents the largest private donation received to date for NCSSM-Morganton and speaks to the value that Leviton assigns to the mission and impact of our institution.”
NCSSM-Morganton will feature a curriculum centered around data science designed to educate and inspire the next generation of problem solvers. The Leviton Engineering Lab will enable a learning experience by emphasizing creativity, problem solving, and the practical applications of innovative technologies. Students will explore engineering and data science as they design solutions to real-world issues.
“It is a great honor to have Leviton represented on the NCSSM-Morganton campus with the naming of the Leviton Engineering Lab,” says Hendler. “Our hope is that this space supports a cutting-edge learning experience for students, and that it furthers the NCSSM mission to grow the next generation of innovators and problem-solvers for our industry.”
The Leviton donation will be used to support the construction of the NCSSM-Morganton campus student wellness center and provide for student services.
In addition to the naming of the Leviton Engineering Lab, Leviton will also be acknowledged on the NCSSM-Morganton donor recognition wall at the cattle barn on the campus.
The NCSSM-Morganton campus will open in 2021.
