The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) announced that Ken Gettman, the international standards director at the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA), is the 2016 recipient of the Finegan Standards Medal. This award honors an individual who has shown leadership in the actual development and application of voluntary standards. Gettman will be recognized at an awards ceremony and banquet on Oct. 26, 2016, held in conjunction with World Standards Week in Washington, D.C.
“Ken has done work on international standards development with ANSI and others,” comments NEMA President and CEO Kevin J. Cosgriff. “This award is deserved recognition of the contributions he has made to NEMA and the electroindustry.”
An engineer by training, Gettman has worked at NEMA for the past 22 years, before which he worked at Underwriters Laboratories and served in the United States Navy. He is secretary of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) Subcommittee 22G on Adjustable Speed Drives and serves as the NEMA representative to the United States National Committee (USNC) Technical Management Committee. Gettman is involved in USNC/IEC activities, including coordinating U.S. participation in 18 IEC technical and subcommittees and serving as a U.S. expert in more than 50 IEC working groups. He is currently the vice chair of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) International Committee on Electromagnetic Safety (SCC39).
