Raymond “Skipper” Post, FAIA, was inaugurated as the 56th Chancellor of the College of Fellows of the American Institute of Architects (AIA). His inauguration was held at the historic Octagon House and the headquarters of the institute in Washington, D.C. The members of the College of Fellows elected Post to serve as Chancellor, citing his leadership and contributions to the architecture profession, the AIA and his community.
Post has held a range of leadership positions at the AIA. Through the years he has served as President of AIA Baton Rouge and AIA Louisiana. His service to the Institute and profession extend to AIA National, having served on the AIA Board of Directors representing the Gulf States Region. In 1996, Post was elected and served as the AIA National President. Post is an honorary member of the Japan Institute of Architects, the Federation of Architects of the Republic of Mexico, and an honorary fellow of the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada. He has also served as president of the Louisiana Architectural Licensing Board. In 1997, Post was the recipient of the AIA Louisiana Medal of Honor, which recognizes contributions to the advancement of architecture and influence on architects in Louisiana.
In addition to his leadership and service within the Institute, Post is active in his community, having served as chairman of the Chamber of Commerce, president of the Rotary Club of Baton Rouge, the Salvation Army and the Arts and Humanities Council. He has served on the boards of Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center and the Pennington Biomedical Foundation. He has been recognized as a Baton Rouge Area Volunteer Activist recipient, named the Business Person of the Year by the Baton Rouge Business Report, and was named an Outstanding Alumnus by the Texas A&M College of Architecture.
