Retail Industry Leaders Association Responds to Pledge for Cutting Greenhouse Gas Emissions

The Retail Industry Leaders Association (RILA) issued the following statement from Vice President, Corporate Social Responsibility, Erin Hiatt in response to the Biden Administration’s pledge to significantly cut U.S. greenhouse gas emissions:

“President Biden’s commitment to combating climate change is an important step in reclaiming America’s leadership role in addressing one of the most serious threats to our future. To protect our global community, the United States must do its part and work collectively with other countries, industries and individuals to avoid climate change’s most disruptive effects.

“The retail industry is an ally in the fight against climate change and welcomes the opportunity to work with policymakers on achievable climate goals. Leading retailers know the intricacies of navigating complex relationships and operational realities in the pursuit of sustainability. We urge the Biden administration and Members of Congress to collaborate on bipartisan legislation that supports innovation, economic resiliency, and energy efficiency to help the United States prepare our economy and workforce to meet necessary emissions reductions. Together we can address climate change through attainable solutions that have a lasting impact on our environment.”

Last week RILA released a report on Retail Climate Priorities outlining top impact areas for retailers on emissions reductions. And in celebration of Earth Day, retailers are establishing, new ambitious sustainability projects. View highlights of the sustainability announcements.
