RoofersCoffeeShop has released its latest Roofing Industry Trends Report. The trends report, which gathered information from February to August 2022, focuses on the labor shortage, difficult materials to obtain, the top business issues in the industry and contractors’ greatest needs and challenges.
“With RoofersCoffeeShop’s commitment to the roofing industry and the professionals who make it great, we want to know what contractors and the industry are experiencing as they continue to roof and protect buildings and people across the nation,” states Heidi J. Ellsworth, RCS president. “The knowledge of roofing professionals is invaluable to not only shed light on the current challenges, but the future needs of the industry.”
The findings from the report were the subject of a Coffee Conversations episode featuring contractors from Virginia, Minnesota and Utah who spoke to the issues they are seeing in their respective areas of the country. Sherri Miles of Miles Roofing, Joe Hoffman of Hoffman Weber and Tim Brown of RSG Exteriors joined Ellsworth to dive deeper into the trends uncovered in the survey and report.
Results show that just over 60 percent of respondents identified labor retention and recruitment as a top business issue they are facing in the industry, with 52 percent of respondents indicating there is a shortage of field workers. Material cost, training and supply chain also stood out as challenges contractors are facing this year. From the information gathered from the 256 respondents, estimating and project management technology are a significant need in the industry, along with digital marketing – digital advertising, websites and content.
Since 2016, RCS has surveyed contractors in the industry and developed four Trends Reports to date that focus on the challenges faced by contractors, their likes and the tools and technology they are using to build their businesses.
