Those Amazing Professions Inc. (TAP) has announced the launch of Those Amazing Architects, a website to inform young people about careers in architecture through real life examples of what architects do, how they work, and the difference they make in people’s lives.
The site, thoseamazingarchitects.com is targeted to middle and high school students, educators, counselors, colleges and universities, and design professionals nationwide to help build the next generation of architects. It was developed with funding and support from major architectural firms and design and construction industry associations; Gensler, HOK, the National Academy of Construction, STV Inc. and the Thornton Tomasetti Foundation.
With an emphasis on content and video interviews of a diverse group of young people, the site hopes to attract more women and minorities who continue to be underrepresented in the field.
Highlights of the site include sections on architects as problem solvers and how architects fit into the project development process as well as architectural greats from antiquity to modern times…and a look towards some of the amazing design projects coming to us in the future. The website also outlines how to become an architect—what courses and extracurriculars to take in high school, as well as what to expect from architecture school. Through individual videos, early career architects talk about what it’s like to work in the field in those first few years.
Early feedback has been positive, with the site seen as a tribute to the architectural profession and a compelling primer on what it means to be an architect today.
Rose Reichman, executive director of TAP, states, “We’re excited about this unique website, which will put architecture on students’ radar as a creative, socially responsible career option.”
