Accoya wood is now available in the U.S. Accoya wood is created by using a non-toxic process called acetylation. The result is an attractive, low-maintenance and long-lasting wood that exceeds the durability and dimensional stability of the best tropical hardwoods. By using sustainably grown wood and improving its properties without adding toxins, Accoya helps to protect threatened species, rainforests and the environment.

Its benefits include:

  • Durablility: It will last 50 years above ground and 25 years in-ground or freshwater contact
  • Sustainability: It is non-toxic, made from sustainably grown timber and is fully reusable and recyclable
  • Termite-resistance: It is indigestible to microorganisms and insects and forms an effective barrier to mold and insect attack

Accoya has been used successfully in building projects around the world, where ordinary wood would not have held up. In the U.S., it is currently being used in the renovation of the German Embassy in Washington. It has also been selected for replacement of window frames on a church in Mobile, Ala., where regular wood would not last in the region’s hot and humid weather. In Newport Beach, Calif., Accoya is being used in a green home project aiming for LEED Platinum certification.
