WoodWorks, an educational initiative providing free project assistance and resources related to the design and construction of non-residential and multifamily wood buildings, is now accepting nominations for its 2015 U.S. Wood Design Awards. The awards celebrate excellence in wood design, engineering and construction, as well as innovative buildings that showcase attributes of wood such as strength, beauty, versatility, cost effectiveness and sustainability. The deadline for nominations is Sept. 30, 2014.<\/p>\n
Projects may be submitted in the following eight categories:<\/p>\n
\u00b7 Multi-Story Wood Design
\n\u00b7 Wood in Educational Buildings
\n\u00b7 Commercial Wood Design
\n\u00b7 Institutional Wood Design
\n\u00b7 Green Building with Wood
\n\u00b7 Beauty of Wood
\n\u00b7 Wood in Government Buildings
\n\u00b7 Innovative Wood Engineering\n<\/ul>\n
Projects across these categories will also be selected to receive regional excellence awards. For category details and nomination forms, please visit WoodWorks online<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cWood Design Awards provide an opportunity for architects and engineers to showcase cutting edge projects that leverage wood\u2019s beauty and versatility,\u201d said WoodWorks executive director Jennifer Cover, PE. \u201cWhat sets a project apart is its ability to demonstrate ingenuity and the unique attributes of using wood in design, such as cost savings, sustainability and structural performance.\u201d<\/p>\n Special consideration will be given to recently completed buildings, projects that utilize wood as a structural element, and innovative designs that exemplify new opportunities for wood construction.<\/p>\n Award submissions must be received by midnight on September 30, 2014. There are no nomination fees and multiple submissions are encouraged. To be eligible, projects or the nominated firm must be located in the U.S. and projects must be fully constructed by September 30, 2014.
