Sandy Grove Middle School in Lumber Bridge, N.C., has become an energy-positive school, thanks in part to the use of Cree LED lighting as the primary lighting source in the school building.
Facilities, such as in education, continue to have pressure to adopt energy efficient technologies due to building codes, and national pushes for clean energy adoption – not to mention lowering the cost of operation. Developed by Firstfloor and designed by SfL+a Architects, Sandy Grove is a 76,000-square-foot facility designed for energy efficiency and LEED certification with Cree LED lighting, projected to save Hoke County $16 million on its energy bills over the life of the building. Advances in LED technology and policies continue to push energy efficient expectations, breaking barriers of sustainable adoption, and reducing emissions, increasing the economy’s energy productivity.
Comprising 80 percent of the school’s lighting, Sandy Grove features Cree’s LR Series LED downlights, the CR Series of architectural LED troffers and LEDway street lights. The interior lights are powered by Cree TrueWhite Technology, offering quality lighting and consistent color temperatures, creating a better visual learning environment that helps improve clarity, reduce fatigue and improve the sense of security.
