The Lifecycle Building Center (LBC) will hold its Revel in Reuse 2017 Fundraiser on Thursday, March 16 from 6 to 9 pm at Westside Market, located at 1530 Ellsworth Industrial Blvd. in Atlanta. The event, with Master of Ceremonies, Eric Moncrief (The Green Guy), will feature live music, Atlanta chefs from such restaurants as Leon’s Full Service, Local Three Kitchen & Bar and Wrecking Bar Brewpub, beer from SweetWater Brewing Company, and prizes including a 5KW Residential Solar System from Hannah Solar valued at $15,000 and a three-day test-drive of a Model S Tesla with goodie bag valued at $1,700.
“Hannah Solar’s commitment to LBC is rooted in commonly held values, specifically, creating an efficient, sustainable built environment and developing alternatives to traditional energy models. We believe that minimizing the environmental impact of buildings and using resources wisely, while also stimulating economic growth in local communities and creating green jobs, is an approach where everyone benefits. We’re proud to support LBC’s mission and encourage others to get involved,” says Pete Marte, CEO of Hannah Solar.
The event will offer attendees a chance to learn how Epic Development partners with the LBC to salvage reusable building materials and to meet several Westside Market vendors who specialize in repurposing reclaimed materials. Several area nonprofits will share the benefits of collaborating with LBC on their facility projects.
Jim LaVallee of Epic Development has been a volunteer and partnered with The Lifecycle Building Center for several years. The company has given the organization access to its residential demolition sites. Lifecycle Building Center’s deconstruction crew partners with Epic to remove usable building materials from each project, thereby making these items available to homeowners, builders, small business owners, and nonprofits in the community. These materials include everything from cabinets, countertops, appliances, hardwood flooring, trim molding, plumbing fixtures, lighting, doors, windows, mantles, and many other types of materials.
LBC is a six-year-old nonprofit organization that maximizes resource efficiency in the built environment by salvaging usable building materials and through free educational programs. LBC operates a 70,000 square foot retail facility in Southwest Atlanta which is open to the public and offers material pickup and deconstruction services. Nonprofits, schools, community groups, and houses of faith can access free materials through LBC’s Nonprofit Material MATCH Program.
“The grants provided through our MATCH Program connect usable materials that were destined for the landfill with organizations that are serving the Atlanta community, and helps these groups direct more resources toward their programs,” says Shannon Goodman, executive director of Lifecycle Building Center. “Since 2011, LBC’s Nonprofit Material MATCH Program has awarded material grants to 100 organizations. Proceeds from our spring fundraiser will help LBC reach its goal of supporting 60 material grants in 2017.”
