The Vinyl Sustainability Council is hosting a free webinar to discuss the work being done within the industry to develop a common classification system and ASTM Standard for post-consumer recycled PVC. Through a standardized system, formulators, product designers, and procurement managers can effectively identify and procure qualified post-consumer PVC materials that meet manufacturing requirements and end-product specifications.
“Durability and performance are key sustainability attributes of PVC, but they are no longer the only focus for PVC compound formulation scientists,” says Jay Thomas, executive director of the Vinyl Sustainability Council. “Sustainability outcomes like carbon reduction in building materials and end-of-use considerations are becoming equally valued by the marketplace. These desired outcomes can be advanced by using recycled post-consumer PVC material.”
The characteristics of post-consumer recycled PVC vary widely based on the original product formulation, weathering, age, and homogeneity of the recycled material stream. During this webinar, the panelists will discuss how and why developing a system and industry standard to classify these materials will increase confidence in the specification and facilitate the use of this raw material in product manufacturing.
