ACI Announces Keynote Speaker

ACI (Affordable Comfort Inc.) has announced that Auden Schendler, vice president of Sustainability at Aspen Skiing Co., will present the keynote address at the 2013 Home Energy Leadership Summit in Denver on Monday, April 29.

Schendler is a sustainability expert and author whose book Getting Green Done: Hard Truths from the Front Lines of the Sustainability Revolution challenges traditional corporate sustainability practices as insufficient, asserting that lasting environmental change will only come about through legislation and a fundamental shift in corporate cultures. Drawing on his extensive experience at the Rocky Mountain Institute and as a consultant for the tourism industry, Schendler presents strategies for large-scale sustainability initiatives that he believes will make a true impact on climate change.

Recognized as a global warming innovator by Time magazine, a “Climate Saver” by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and a Wirth Chair “Pioneer of the New Energy Economy” by the University of Colorado, Schendler has testified about clean energy policy and climate change before Congress. He has been published in the Harvard Business Review, LA Times, Slate, Scientific American Earth 3.0 and Salon.com.

Schendler’s keynote presentation kicks off the 2013 Home Energy Leadership Summit, an executive-level event attracting leaders from the public and private sectors who are working to drive residential energy efficiency into the mainstream. Held at the Sheraton Denver Downtown Hotel April 29–30, the summit features presentations by and panel discussions among the corporate leaders and policymakers who stand at the forefront of the home performance and weatherization industry, including government officials, contractors, utilities, manufacturers and more. The 2013 summit will focus on strategies for aligning the diverse interests in the industry, developing an industry scorecard for the measurement of success, and strengthening the building science workforce.

The 2013 Home Energy Leadership Summit will be held in conjunction with the 2013 National Home Performance Conference, an annual event attracting members from all sectors of the home performance and weatherization industry. Home performance and weatherization professionals create solutions for the comfort, health, and durability of residential buildings by exploring how buildings use energy and how building materials and appliances affect energy efficiency, air circulation, and moisture. Homeowners seek solutions to enhance comfort, lower energy costs, and utilize sustainable resources; weatherization assistance programs help low-income households improve comfort and lower utility bills through renovations that are funded by community action agencies, non-profit groups, or local governments.
