Friedrich Installs Room Air Conditioners, Creating Optimal Learning Environment

Take a school on a limited budget, add the latest HVAC technology and it equals a teachable moment for greater efficiency, convenience and comfort.

That’s the result of a donation from Friedrich to Mount Sacred Heart, a pre-K-8 grade school in San Antonio, Texas. Friedrich is installing 10 Kühl room A/C units at the school to replace a hodgepodge of older units made from a variety of other manufacturers that are outmoded and in various stages of disrepair.

In part, the donation is a test for Friedrich’s smart technology WiFi platform, called FriedrichConnect, that the company plans to introduce as part of its full Kühl line later this year. With FriedrichConnect, all the Friedrich Kühl units being installed at Mount Sacred can be remotely controlled and managed as a group, eliminating the need for a separate energy management system.

“Remote management will contribute to energy savings,” says Brittany Calderon, Friedrich consumer products manager. “These units also offer room-by-room comfort and are convenient for the school to operate. Remote management means not worrying about whether someone forgot to turn off the A/C and the potential wasted energy that may result.”

Kühl represents the next generation of room air conditioners and not only for its smarts. The Kühl line has cooling-only models and models with heat (heat pump or electric heat) in a full range of capacities so they can operate as year-round central-like systems. The largest Kühl unit can produce up to 36,000 BTUs and ENERGY STAR qualified models are available in a variety of different sizes. Friedrich offers an entire line of room air conditioners with smart grid technology, making it possible for utilities to connect, monitor and control the units on the backend during times of strain on the power grid.
