Solidia Technologies, a provider of decarbonization technologies and sustainable solutions to the construction and building materials industries, has entered an agreement with 3Degrees, a global climate solutions provider, to manage the measurement, verification, and sale of the greenhouse gas emission benefits generated from Solidia’s technology. The resulting credits, which include carbon removal, will be purchased by organizations to reduce their scope 3 emissions from cement and concrete or to compensate for other greenhouse gas emissions.
As one of the industry’s most experienced environmental commodities firms, 3Degrees has built a portfolio of rigorously vetted, high-integrity carbon reduction and removal projects, such as those underway at Solidia, from which organizations can procure credits.
Solidia’s patented green solutions reduce CO2 emissions in the production of cement compared to portland cement, mineralize CO2 in concrete, and replace carbon-intensive portland cement in concrete. These combined technologies have the potential to eliminate nearly 1 gigaton of CO2 each year, assuming full global conversion. All realized emission reductions will be measured and verified by accredited third parties.
“By partnering with 3Degrees to issue carbon credits, Solidia is providing a mechanism for the marketplace to invest in technologies that will accelerate and enable global carbon emissions reduction,” says Russell Hill, Ph.D., CEO for Solidia Technologies.
The investment organizations make in carbon credits, either as part of a sustainability strategy or to offset mandated emissions caps, will allow Solidia to subsidize and reinvest in its decarbonization technologies, thereby generating value and strengthening the technologies’ current and future viability.
“3Degrees sells millions of carbon credits annually and oversees the monitoring, reporting and verification processes required to generate credits. We’re working to incorporate the carbon benefits of Solidia’s cement, SCM, and concrete production activities into an environmental commodity to rapidly scale their deployment in pursuit of global net-zero emissions,” says Peter Weisberg, director of Development for 3Degrees. “This collaboration facilitates the verification of quantifiable and durable CO2 removal. In its role as Solidia’s partner in the carbon market, 3Degrees will manage protocol development, carbon project design, verification, and credit sales to maximize the value of Solidia’s carbon benefits.”
Through its partnership, 3Degrees helps ensure that Solidia adheres to established protocols for carbon credits and markets, and assists in the sale of those carbon credits. Additionally, 3Degrees collaborates with Solidia to design and define projects, such as a facility employing the decarbonization technologies, to ensure strict adherence to these protocols.
“3Degrees is an industry leader in carbon reduction, and our collaboration ensures we issue the highest standard of carbon credits. By partnering with 3Degrees, we have even greater confidence that the CO2 reductions that we’re developing with our technology are going to be even more meaningful and impactful,” says Dr. Hill. “In addition, selling carbon credits will help Solidia accelerate product development, which will further enhance the value proposition for the future partners and manufacturers that will leverage those technologies.”
