Georgia-Pacific Professional has announced Green Seal certification of a selection of the company’s tissue, towel and napkin products. This designation by Green Seal, a third-party sustainability certification organization, is another building block in Georgia-Pacific Professional’s offering of sustainable products.
The facilities that manufacture Georgia-Pacific Professional’s Green Seal certified products under the GS-1 standard underwent a rigorous independent review as part of the participation in the program. According to Green Seal, the GS-1 standard addresses the primary life-cycle issues for sanitary paper products from product performance, raw materials, manufacturing, packaging and use. Elements of the evaluation included fiber sources and chemical use in the manufacturing process; product performance; energy and water consumption; air, wastewater, and solid waste reporting; and packaging content and efficiency.
“Green Seal certification highlights our long-term commitment to sustainability, stewardship and meeting the demands of the marketplace,” says John Mulcahy, vice president, sustainability, for Georgia-Pacific Professional. “We were a pioneer in using recycled fiber to make products, and we continue to be a leading provider of waste reducing solutions. This certification represents another step in our ongoing effort to be a sustainable partner with our customers.”
Green Seal’s President and CEO, Dr. Arthur Weissman, adds, “We are pleased that a company of Georgia-Pacific Professional’s stature, market reach, and history has achieved product certification, demonstrating the company’s commitment to sustainability.”
